Production Support

ARPRO customers are not simply purchasing the best EPP material on the market; they also benefit from exceptional production support from JSP, an expert in EPP processing. From an idea to full series production, ARPRO customers are supported throughout their production journey by JSP, utilising digital services, the facilities at the JSP Innovation Centre in Düsseldorf, and with on-site troubleshooting and support.

This support begins with feasibility studies to determine the viability of the product and the design and recommendations for component optimisation in the fields of function, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.

Customers can perform moulding trials at JSP’s purpose-built facility, and with the guidance of expert engineers, can optimise their moulding process, and perform material validation on a number of APRRO grades to suit their application.

JSP operates with a collaborative design approach and is committed to the highest level of production support for its customers. With over 20 years’ experience working with expanded foam thermoplastics, we help our customers create the most value, in the most sustainable way.

Feasibility Studies

JSP supports its customers throughout their innovation journey, from idea to full production. Projects often start with an idea, but is this idea viable?

Feasibility studies are used to determine the viability of a project, and to allow modifications and recommendations to be implemented at the design stage by JSP’s expert engineers, to maximise a product's function and to minimise its cost. JSP performs a full analysis of initial part designs, to determine moulding feasibility and makes any necessary recommendations to modify the fit and function, tolerances, geometry, and wall thickness.

Tooling design and optimisation is another important aspect of the process, which can be fully supported by JSP’s team. We can make recommendations for the fill position, location of injectors and vents, and the deployment of core pull and passive steaming to make sure the tooling is fully optimised before production begins.

For every ARPRO project, we perform a thorough design and feasibility review, including shrinkage and warpage analysis. This gives our customers the opportunity to optimise their design, process and tool with accurate estimates for tooling investment, processing techniques, quality control requirements and production costs.

Troubleshooting

The support from ARPRO doesn’t stop once production begins. We support our customers for the duration of their project, including troubleshooting of manufacturing issues.

ARPRO.com contains a comprehensive library of datasheets and processing guides. The informational downloads provide design principles, post-processing procedures and manufacturing best practices and give customers a great starting point with common issues and limitations.

We assist all customers in the start-up phase of their production using ARPRO, aiding with moulding equipment configuration and optimisation. Should disaster strike mid-production, our engineers can provide on-site or remote technical support in less than 1 working day, meaning our customers can be confident in maintaining their production schedules.

Moulding Trials

Moulding trials are an important step in a product development cycle and allow ARPRO customers to optimise their tool design and process settings, and remove the risk from a project, before starting full production.

Utilising the range of equipment and machinery at the Innovation Centre in Düsseldorf, JSP fully supports moulding trials in ARPRO for its customers.

With full access to the eureka telemetric moulding cell, and 3D scanning equipment for quality assurance, customers work alongside JSP engineers in a collaborative, iterative process, to create optimised prototypes.

The trial process usually takes multiple stages, with considerations taken from each stage allowing for optimisation in the next. Small improvements can be made to tooling design or processing conditions, ARPRO grade selection or surface finish, until all objectives are achieved. These services are routinely performed at JSP’s Innovation Centre where pioneering products are produced every day.

Material Validation

With a large variety of ARPRO grades available for many different applications, JSP can guide customers through the process of material selection and material validation.

JSP directs customers to choose the most suitable grade for their application in terms of quality and efficiency. JSP can also test EPP against the existing solution to optimise the manufacturing process and to maximise the benefit.

Material validation can be undertaken either at the Innovation Centre in Düsseldorf or directly at a customer’s site. It consists of a series of production experiments, using materials of different grades to create identical components. These products are then tested against certain criteria, the performance is measured and recorded, and compared to other grades or other materials to determine the most suitable material for the application.

Process Optimisation

To manufacture components with the most robust and efficient process possible, the manufacturing process needs to be precise, repeatable, and optimised. Utilising the wide range of equipment and expertise available at our Innovation Centre in Düsseldorf, JSP’s engineers work alongside our customers to support and create optimised manufacturing procedures and an optimised moulding process. These process settings are then transferred to the customer's facility so they can be repeated.

Utilising 3D scanners, we can verify the quality of ARPRO moulded parts, comparing the scan data to CAD designs thanks to our advanced colour map analysis. This enables JSP engineers to provide recommendations for process and tooling corrections based on any data differences.

JSP's 20 years of experience in processing and optimising products made from expanded polypropylene materials, means that we are able to provide technical and engineering assistance to customers during all stages of their EPP manufacturing journey.

Tooling Design and Optimisation

Tooling design and optimisation is a critical part of the production process, and JSP’s team provides full support to ensure optimal results. We offer expert guidance on design features, filling positions, ejector placement, the need for core pulls, and potential challenges related to passive steaming, ensuring the tooling is fully optimised before production begins.

For every ARPRO project, we conduct a comprehensive design and feasibility review, including warpage analysis where required. This enables our customers to optimise their part design, process parameters, and tooling, while providing accurate estimates for tooling investment, processing strategies, quality control, and production costs.
