Students from Kolding Design School created the Buggi, a sustainable, multifunctional children’s furniture piece made from ARPRO EPP. Lightweight, durable, and recyclable, ARPRO met the needs for play, support, and eco-conscious design.

Problem

Designing functional, playful, and sustainable children’s furniture is a challenge—especially when it must support various developmental needs, stand up to physical use, and remain environmentally responsible. Traditional materials often fall short in either durability, safety, or eco-friendliness.

Solution

Students Anna Kirstine Pedersen and Anna Kristine Bang Melsen from Kolding Design School developed 'Buggi', a multifunctional children’s furniture concept using ARPRO expanded polypropylene (EPP). In collaboration with BEWI’s design team and through close engagement with children aged 3–6, they created a full-scale prototype tailored for both play and relaxation.

We were attracted by the sustainability aspects of ARPRO, having a low CO₂ footprint and the ability to recycle the Buggi at the end of life. The versatile structural strength, being lightweight and the ability to absorb multiple impacts made ARPRO a perfect fit for the Buggi”
