Artekno has launched the Ocean Utö series of cooler boxes made from ARPRO 35 Ocean, a sustainable expanded polypropylene material containing 15% recycled maritime industry waste such as fishing nets and ropes.

Problem

The maritime industry generates a significant amount of plastic waste, particularly from discarded fishing ropes and nets. These materials contribute to ocean pollution and are often difficult to recycle effectively. Additionally, eco-conscious consumers increasingly demand environmentally friendly, durable, and high-performance products for everyday use, including outdoor gear like cooler boxes.

Solution

Artekno partnered with JSP to develop the Artekno Ocean Utö series, the first cooler boxes made using ARPRO 35 Ocean—an innovative expanded polypropylene (EPP) material containing 15% recycled maritime industry waste. This sustainable initiative not only repurposes plastic waste from the fishing industry but also supports a cleaner ocean and reduces the carbon footprint of production.

• Named after Utö Island, a historic maritime location in Finland known for its lighthouse and significance in nautical history—reinforcing the connection to the ocean.
