As the technology leader, we have opted for a real technical carbon footprint emission reduction versus CO2 certificate trading.
Click here to download the self-declared environmental claim based on the life cycle assessment (LCA) of the environmental impacts of expanded polypropylene ARPRO, ARPRO Recycled and ARPRO 35 Ocean. The assessment was performed using the LCA method conducted in accordance with ISO 14040. Environmental impacts were characterised using PEF 3.0 methodology of the European Union. ARPRO grades have the lowest ecological footprint amongst our peers in life cycle assessment today.
Our direct CO2 emission intensity has been reduced by 32% vs 2011 by process improvements and in part due to 100% renewable electricity used in our production plants. Our target is to reduce by a further 40% by 2027 with the use of bio-gas. As a result of process innovations, we have reduced the CO2 footprint of all of our products and ARPRO Recycled grades have an even lower carbon footprint (<2 kg CO2 eq./kg ARPRO) while maintaining the same performance properties of ARPRO Black. We continue to innovate and invest in CO2 recycling for the ARPRO production process to provide additional emission reductions in 2022.
CO2(e) savings result from the ability to deliver component weight reductions of up to 35%. If this saving is applied to the number of cars sold annually, an environmental saving of nearly 16 million tonnes of CO2(e) could be achieved.
